During a very creative phase of his life, rooted in naturalism, Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro produced a great variety of fish and seafood in ceramics, including sardines, eels, crabs, spider crabs, codfish and shellfish. Many of these inhabitants of Portuguese rivers and the sea nearby are being recreated with the same sculptural richness and remarkable precision in the colours used as well as in the application of these ceramic colours.
